On WGBH’s Greater Boston Monday, historian David McCullough discussed his new collection of speeches The American Spirit: Who We Are And What We Stand For.

McCullough also explained why he and a group of historians are continuing to oppose President Donald Trump, who, as The Washington Post's Amy Wang reports, says he's a big fan of history but doesn’t seem to trust historians.

"I was outraged by the behavior of the candidate," McCullough said.

In July, McCullough and filmmaker Ken Burns broke format and spoke out against Trump, calling him a threat to political discourse and democracy.
