How do you quit a dream that you’ve been chasing for decades? For comedian Marc Maron, the answer is: you don’t.
When Maron’s career as a standup comic hit a rut in the late 2000s, he decided to take his work in a new direction and start a comedy podcast, WTF with Marc Maron. “By the time I started the podcast, I was pretty washed up, and pretty broke, without a lot of hope,” he says.
Five years later, WTF is now one of the most popular comedy podcasts on iTunes, with over 200,000 downloads per episode. Maron has interviewed comics from Chris Rock to Robin Williams, and covered topics as diverse as feminism, country music, and patent trolls. Maron also has his own TV show, Maron, and tours as a stand-up comic.
For Maron, he’s just happy to be doing the thing he’s loved ever since he was a little kid. “When I was a kid, I knew I was trouble,” he says. “I was always gunning for the laugh.”
