We're all guilty of it: You’re sitting in front of your computer – or checking your phone – and before long, you’re hunched over like a certain bell-ringer from Notre Dame.

Almost 80 percent of people will have spine problems at some point in their life, and many of those problems are caused by sitting — both how we sit, and how long.

A big part of the problem is our desk-centric lifestyles – it’s easy to forget your grandmother’s advice to sit up straight, especially when you’re deep in an Excel document.

“Our bodies were designed to move,” says Monisha Perkash founder & CEO of Lumo BodyTech, “and what has happened over the last several decades is we’ve devolved into a sedentary society. And one that not only sits too much, but also sits poorly.”

Perkash’s company has developed a little gadget – worn like a lapel pin or brooch – that vibrates to remind the wearer to sit up straight.

There you go: another example of technology solving a problem that it helped create.
