At this point, the media is far too busy hyping the competitiveness of both parties’ presidential nomination contests, but after Hillary Clinton secures the Democratic nod, I fully expect to see Massachusetts-based media commentary on the similarities between 2014 Massachusetts Democratic gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley and Hillary Clinton.
The Clinton-Coakley comparisons will be one a many minor narratives used to prop up the notion that the 2016 presidential election is wide open, and ought to be a “nail biter.” Of course, the similarities between Clinton and Coakley will be over-stated and efforts to equate the contexts of the 2014 Massachusetts governor’s race and the 2016 presidential race will be strained.
Stay tuned.
