It’s been a very good week for Donald Trump. A slew of polls show him gaining on or leading Hillary Clinton in key swing states and nationally, and over at FiveThirtyEight, the odds of Clinton prevailing in November are plummeting.
What happened? Maybe it was Clinton’s line about half of Trump’s supporters being “deplorables,” or that viral video that showed her looking like she was about to keel over—along with the subsequent revelation that Clinton has pneumonia. But WGBH contributor Dan Kennedy thinks there’s another factor: the press, he contends, is piling on Clinton and giving Trump a pass.
Adam Reilly and Peter Kadzis talked with Kennedy about why he thinks the media is botching their coverage of Campaign 2016—and whether, whatever the outcome, Trump’s candidacy could force us to re-evaluate the way we do political journalism. Take a listen, and then let us know what you think: is the press driving Trump’s surge in the polls? Leave a message or send us an email: we're at scrum@wgbh.org.
