The prestigious Boston Latin School is widely considered one of the city's educational treasures: it's the oldest public school in the country, and students who gain admission (after competitive testing) and graduate routinely move on to the nation's top colleges and universities. Lately, though, Boston Latin has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Some students of color say they've faced racial harassment, and that the administration has turned a deaf ear to their complaints. Meanwhile, some Boston Latin loyalists feel betrayed by Mayor Marty Walsh and school superintendent Tommy Chang, who they feel haven't been sufficiently supportive of the school's embattled administrators and faculty. In this episode of the Scrum, Adam Reilly (@reillyadam) and Peter Kadzis (@kadzis) size up the Boston Latin mess--and its political implications--with Boston Globe opinion columnist Joan Vennochi (@joan_vennochi).
