The war in Syria has led to the largest worldwide refugee crisis since World War II. The international conflict with ISIS and their infiltration into Syria has incited a fear of refugees from the country that has become a major political factor in the presidential election. Donald Trump has made headlines since the beginning of his campaign, calling for a total ban of refugees from the Syrian region. In a speech on foreign policy last week, Trump mentioned Cold War tactics like “ideological testing” and “extreme vetting” as methods he would use to protect the U.S. from radicalized refugees. To help get a more personal view on the refugee crisis, Adam Reilly interviewed Nadia Alawa, the founder of NuDay Syria, a group that provides aid to Syrian women and children and sends shipping containers of supplies to Syria. Stay tuned after the interview for a Scrum roundtable with Adam, Peter Kadzis, and David Bernstein on Trump’s plans for handling refugees and other political news.
