For years, the green line extension has seemed like an endless endeavor that may never get off the ground. The project has experienced ups and downs including, receiving a billion dollars in federal grant money, and then almost losing all of it after the budget ballooned to nearly a billion dollars over the initial estimates. Rather than scrap the massively mismanaged extension, the MBTA and the Department of Transportation redesign the project, and resubmitted the plan last month to the federal government in order to receive funding. The Scrum held a live taping of the podcast at the Brass Union in Somerville to discuss the history and progress of the green line extension and the overall status of the MBTA. Host Adam Reilly was joined by the former Secretary of Transportation Jim Aloisi, State House News reporter Andy Metzger, Bangor Daily News reporter Danielle McLean, and WGBH’s Mike Deehan.
